EgoNet - Data Collection, Visualization and Analysis in Personal Networks Research
Instructors: Alejandro García-Macías (Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, Mexico) & Judith Pampalona-Tarrés (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain)
EgoNet (http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/egonet) is an open source program for the collection and analysis of personal network data. It helps you create the questionnaire, collect data and provide general global network measures. In addition, data matrices can be used for a more extensive analysis by other software. Once the interview is completed, the network can be immediately visualized, allowing the interviewer to ask further questions about the network. Other utilities include combining personal networks into a single whole network.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to design a personal network survey in EgoNet with a single or multiple name generators, appropriate name interpreters, and alter-alter prompt question, how to visualize the network and how to calculate basic network measures.
One useful advanced technique for comparing personal networks collected with EgoNet is the clustered graph method that will be explained in the second part of the Visone workshop. Participants are therefore encouraged to take this workshop as well.
